Tony Addiscott

Tony was born and educated in England.

His first business life was in primary products (meat, wool, hides etc.) which took him to NSW, Brazil, Europe, Victoria and WA during which time he achieved CEO status.

This was followed by twenty years as the owner of an OH&S risk management business where he first became really aware of the effect of injuries and illness on people. .

Tony was diagnosed with a sub-frontal meningioma in December 1999 after some six years of sinister and increasingly disruptive frontal lobe dysfunction. The tumour was successfully removed surgically and three years then passed before Tony was certified as “normal” again by a competent neuro-psychologist.

His experience of particularly the private health system in WA showed Tony that consumers had little or no access to information about their health issue and how to get information to help people living with tumours, and their carers, to cope with the emotional and financial roller-coasters involved. Tony intends to change this by giving relevant issues a higher public profile and by organising wider distribution of information into the community with effective consumer advocacy where it counts – objectives which are entirely consistant with those of Cancer Voices WA.
